How it Works

Registration takes under one minute and requires no special information. Following immediate credential verification, members can access the study platform from their Member Dashboard to get started.

Efficient study completion requires collecting a few pieces of information prior to accessing the study platform. We suggest you print out the Study Worksheet from your Member Dashboard and complete it as instructed. The data collection software is identical to the worksheet and each question has been constructed for simple entry by clicking boxes, choosing from options or and entering information. This stage is designed to require no longer than 20 minutes.

Study completion entitles members to immediate access to all aggregated responses for their specialty study. The graphical and tabular results simplify data interpretation to facilitate meaningful comparisons, show relevant relationships and highlight trends in data elements. GreenMark makes it easy for members to update their study data from year to year to maintain this benefit at no cost.

Our sophisticated, yet easy to use  software allows members to filter their particular specialty database to design comparable cohorts for powerful and specific benchmarking of compensation and productivity variables.

Personalized Benchmarking –  allows members to benchmark their own data within whatever comparison they choose.

1

The member chooses a productivity or compensation variable for analysis. For example: Total Compensation, Call Pay Rate, or Total Benefits

2

The member identifies characteristics of their practice to select filters that limit the database to comparable practices. For example: Academic, Hospital-employed, Metropolitan Area, Group Size 5-10, New York State, wRVU range 4000-6000/Yr

3

Results are presented in high-resolution, color tablar and graphical format with the member’s study data benchmarked against their self-styled comparison cohort for the chosen variable.

4

The results can be printed out as a pdf for use in contract negotiations or any other purpose.

5

Members have unlimited use of the software to perform an almost limitless combination of database inquiries.

Modeling Capabilities

Regional Economic Comparability

Syracuse, New York and Manhattan are both located in the Northeast, but that similar geographic location alone fails to justify a reasonable comparison of physician productivity and compensation. Unfortunately, aggregated national market research provides no better comparability.

GreeMark collects multiple sources of publicly reported regional economic information to provide a new dimension for creating accurate comparison cohorts for physician productivity and compensation benchmarking.

Specialty Labor Market Modeling

Physician practice valuation is frequently performed to evaluate arrangements between physicians and hospitals. Whether constructed as employment or lease agreements, these arrangements often span a term of several years.

GreenMark collects physician specialty market supply data and indicators of clinical demand to construct predictive models to forecast effects on productivity and compensation. This information provides members the ability to construct long term arrangements that comport with the future of each specialty.

Common Questions

Simply find and click the Registration button on the top right corner at www.GreenMarkPartrners.com. Entering a few pieces of information allows our system to validate and authenticate your identity immediately. Physician members of participating medical specialty societies simply enter their Verification Code to access directly the CompChart application.

We at GreenMark believe that existing physician compensation market research is underpowered, highly biased and being used invalidly for inferential purposes. This widespread practice undervalues physician compensation. In short, health care market participants deserve higher quality and more powerful compensation market information used appropriately.

Unfortunately, no. For the study information to meet our quality goals, we need high study response rates. This is the only way for the information to be of any value to anyone. Fortunately, participation is fairly painless and has been designed to require little effort and a short time commitment. Then, as a participant, you’ll have access to all the study data at no cost.

No, but completing the study is easy if you have done so in the past. GreenMark recognizes the value of your time. Your study questionnaire will be pre-populated with your previous responses so that you simply need to update the information. The fewer changes in your productivity and compensation, the less time required to gain access to the study data or .

We design each study to capture only the information essential to you. You should be able to complete the entire study in 20 minutes. The study software was designed for use by busy physicians with limited computer ability. Our goal is to allow you to be done as fast as possible by clicking buttons and sliding sliders for data entry.

No, you will need to know how much you are compensated and for what effort, as well as one piece of information from your last federal tax return. You will also need some information about your clinical practice during the reporting period (amount of call, productivity information, etc.). Sometimes we find it best to have a practice manager or Human Resource professional in your office assist by completing this information prior to accessing the study application. Once you register, we provide a Study Guide and Worksheet to facilitate collecting the correct information quickly to make entering the information as fast as possible.

Why would you have such confidence in existing market data given small sample sizes and some of the inherent bias in collecting that sample? You probably wouldn’t make clinical decisions based upon such information. Why would you form professional career beliefs based upon limited information? You get the idea. Without a high participation market research study collected with minimal bias, nobody knows whether a particular physician is compensated in the 25th percentile or the 90th percentile of the real population for a given specialty. The only way to know is to participate.

No, but GreenMark believes that measures of clinical effort and compensation can figure prominently in a trainee’s decision to pursue a particular specialty. For that reason, GreenMark provides access to aggregated study information to residents and fellows at no cost.
Study participants receive access to all study data for their specialty at no cost for one full year. We have found few instances in compensation negotiations between health care providers where compelling data fail to exert a profound effect on the outcome. While not a universal truth, having more compelling data provide the greatest opportunity to arrive at fair compensation even within highly matrixed and structured institutions or health systems, and even among academic or teaching hospitals. In fact, a comprehensive and time-relevant database of productivity and compensation information for your particular specialty may be the one resource that the Dean finds persuasive. Further, the use of to drill down into the database to design comparison cohorts can add tremendous insight to the general, non-specific reports currently available.

This data visualization application permits users to filter their specialty database to design cohorts of physician practices that are just like them. When it comes to understanding where you fall among your colleagues regarding compensation or productivity variables, it is important to make sure you are comparing yourself to similar practices. allows you to define what is important or unique about your practice to find the right comparison group. Current physician compensation market research either compares your practice to all US physicians or those in your geographic region. But a small academic practice in Syracuse, NY can be much different than a large private practice in Boston and so such information fails to yield accurate information because comparability is limited. allows you to solve this problem for yourself, and the results can be powerful.

As we recognize from clinical medicine, accurate data are powerful. You will be able to access information regarding total compensation, call pay rates, levels of compensation for management and leadership activities as well as many other sources of revenue for physicians. Making the case for being fairly compensated in any of these areas is made possible through high-participation, credible data.
First of all, congratulations for recognizing that nobody really knows relatively how well you are compensated among a true group of similar practitioners.
First of all, congratulations for recognizing that nobody really knows relatively how well you are compensated among a true group of similar practitioners. But, if you really find yourself above the 90th percentile (or maybe even just above the 75th percentile) and you are contractually affiliated with a hospital or health system, there could be a problem. Federal law requires that such relationships between providers be at fair market value and commercially reasonable, and it appears that the courts have decided that this fair market value should be determined through available market research. Now maybe you see the problem. If the existing physician compensation market research fails to capture the highest compensated among a particular specialty, those same physicians would appear to be compensated above the highest range of the study, and therefore above fair market value. It doesn’t take long on the Internet to realize that there has been a great deal of federal law enforcement in this area and the consequences can be disastrous for hospitals and physicians. None of this would be the case if there were a credible source of physician compensation data truly reflective of the population to guide the efforts of both physicians and hospitals. Both parties could trust valuations as within fair market value as relationships were structured or renegotiated to avoid running afoul of these powerful laws. So participate in the study of your specialty to document the real range of fair market value to protect yourself and your hospital.
Once you register, we provide a Study Guide and Worksheet for your particular specialty. These materials precisely mirror the questionnaire you will complete in the study application. Once you complete the study, you will receive full access to aggregated information for every study question on your user page. provides the ability to filter your specialty database to examine variables such as total compensation or call pay among a more comparable group, not the entire database. The results can be very different and powerfully enlightening.

Physicians receive free and unlimited access to all specialty-specific, filterable compensation and practice information for their participation.
